We overlapped by a year. Saw the Two Tone Tour at the Top Rank suite, Stiff Little Fingers at the Poly and a whole bunch of others such as Gen X at Clones.
Drinking at Monroes and The Fortescue on Mutley Plain where we lived. I enjoyed it

Only just noticed this thread.....on my home for the past 20 years

A lot of what has all ready been said is true.....the location is amazing but the city itself leaves a lot to be desired ( thanks Adolf)
But the view from the Hoe......just a five minute stroll from the city centre .....is one of the best city views in the world

Buildings look like it is Eastern Europe. Locals look like Chernobyl survivors

Like others have said, the surrounding areas have some beautiful places, but sadly Plymouth itself isn’t one of them.

I can only assume the Wetherspoons in Plymouth is one of the saddest places on earth

On a warm summers night, having a stroll along the shore overlooking the bay or sitting in one of the pubs watching the sunset is unironically one of the best gems in the country

Re: Plymouth
Its a good night out, and the surrounding countryside and coastline is some of the best in the nation, but the town itself has been severely and wilfully run down for a long time.

The streets around the docks and barbican used to be packed with bars and restaurants, and are now almost entirely derelict.

Quite sad to see, as there is so much potential, given the local geography, maritime and naval history etc and even the microclimate (it gets fucking boiling well in to October and the sea is as warm as some tropical countries)

Also a lot of West Ham down that way.

Spent 3 years at Plymouth Poly from 1976.

Favourite moment. Seeing The Ramones at the Top Rank Suite on Union Street with Talking Heads supporting.

Re: Plymouth
anyone interested in getting beyond " its a shit hole" " its a cracking place "debate might want to invest in a look at this documentray from 1946 where it shows how he city had the shit bombed out of it and the attempts to rebuild a different kind of city...as with alot of re-builds-0 what plymouth ended up with was a half-baked version of what the vision was/people needed and then that half got ripped out in the 60's . which is why it looks and feels so disjointed
